A quelques jours, semaines, de la sortie du nouvel album solo d'Ihsahn, j'ai pensé qu'il était de bon ton de revenir un peu en arrière. Remontons en 1994, le 21 Février plus exactement, date à laquelle Emperor sort son premier véritable album intitulé "In The Nightside Eclipse". Et quel album ! Pour un début, c'est un bon début. Emperor met la barre très haut. Il est vrai que question mixage, on aurait aimé peut-être que les claviers soient légèrement plus bas histoire de "manger" un peu moins les guitares. Le son quant à lui est résolument Black, rien à dire. Le chant d'Ihsahn est beaucoup moins varié que ce qu'il fera sur l'album suivant, mais cela reste très efficace. Les chansons sont très bien construites, les riffs sont énormes et les paroles sont très évocatrices. Tellement évocatrices que Faust finira en prison pour meurtre et Samoth passera quelques mois à l'ombre pour incendie d'églises. Qu'à cela ne tienne, tout cela fait partie de la légende maintenant. Emperor jète avec cet album les bases de son style, et influence à jamais une légion de groupes Black Metal.
